Founded in 2014, the Online Academy of the Global Labour University (GLU) is a pioneer in online education offering decentralized, globally connected learning spaces for workers and trade unionists. Thousands of participants are connecting through these learning spaces in vibrant debates about social and environmental justice, workers' rights, political freedom and democracy. The free online courses are combined with webinars and localised workshops, and supported by a global team of certified trainers.

By July 2022, the GLU online courses have reached a combined number of over 25,000 people from across the world, the majority of whom are trade unionists of all levels, labour and other activists, as well as labour researchers and educators.

Dr. Edlira Xhafa is the Executive Director of the Online Academy. Dr. Frank Hoffer and Prof. Dr Mark Anner are Non-executive Directors.
